The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
