Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his future after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
