A 60-day journey around the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the death of an older woman who was stranded by the vessel on a distant island.

The passenger had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff discovered the passenger was missing.

A major rescue mission discovered her remains the next day.

Authorities are looking into the event, alongside police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company announced that travelers and personnel on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be provided a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the travel back of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an revised statement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its return.
